The result of the EFNIL Master’s Thesis Competition

Two talented students were awarded the EFNIL Master’s Thesis Competition this year; Chiara Ceppi and Riccardo Bravi.

The third round of EFNIL’s project Master‘s Thesis Award was carried out in 2021-2022.

Two Master’s theses were awarded, on October 13, at EFNIL’s annual meeting in Vilnius.

The 2022 winners are Chiara Ceppi and Riccardo Bravi. The prize for each winner is 1500 EUR, and an invitation to present the research at EFNIL’s meeting and publish the presentation in the conference proceedings. Both winners attended the Vilnius meeting where they received their awards and gave presentations of their research.

Chiara Ceppi’s thesis:

The Face and Voice of SBB CFF FFS: A Sociolinguistic Study of Multilingualism for the Branding of a Swiss Institution (Université de Lausanne).

Ceppi’s thesis presents a comprehensive and insightful analysis of multilingualism in ideology and practice at the Swiss national railway company SBB CFF FFS.

Riccardo Bravi’s thesis:

Deutsche Bundesbank e Banca d’Italia. La conoscenza enciclopedica condivisa in una comunità socioprofessionale di parlanti (Università di Bologna).

Applying the termontographic approach, Bravi renders a detailed and unique analysis of terms and concepts in economics and finance. His bilingual corpus consists of speeches by the Governors of the German and Italian national central banks.

The EFNIL Master’s Thesis Award project 2021-2022 was led by Ari Páll Kristinsson and Åse Wetås. The 2022 jury consisted of seven experts: Aspa Chatzidaki, Julia Choleva, Linnea Hanell, Nataša Gliha Komac, Gerhard Stickel, Elena Tamba and Kris Van de Poel. EFNIL received twelve applications, ten of which were within the scope of the call, and were evaluated by the jury.
